During a meeting with Saudi FM Sisi warns : ‘Libya should not turn into terrorist base’
During the meeting, President El-Sisi stressed that political solutions are the basis for solving all the crises in the region’s conflict-stricken countries.
Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi discussed on Monday the latest developments in Yemen, Libya, Syria and Iraq with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud in Cairo, the Egyptian presidency said.
El-Sisi also said that Egypt’s consistent position on Libya calls for an end to the foreign interventions in the country and for fighting radical and terrorist groups in order to restore security and stability.
The president added that Libya should not be allowed to turn into a base for extremist and terrorist groups, which would threaten security in the region and in Africa.
El-Sisi also stressed that Arab solidarity, unity and a consistency in positions are the most effective ways to combat external risks that face the Arab world.
The Saudi foreign minister said during the meeting that his country holds the same stance as that of Egypt with regards to political settlements being the solution to the region’s crises, and that the two countries shared a joint national security.
He also expressed Saudi Arabia’s appreciation for Egypt’s strategic and pivotal role in defending Arab national security under the guidance of President El-Sisi.
Bin Farhan praised Egypt’s continuous efforts to ensure security, stability and development on the regional and international levels.
The meeting was also attended by Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and the Saudi Ambassador to Cairo.
