Sergio Ramos vs Florentino Perez: Who’ll call first?
Player willing to back down and accept one year
Six months later and the Sergio Ramos contract situation has barely moved on. After weeks and weeks of no agreement between the two parties, Ramos is now looking for a solution that will see him stay at Real Madrid.
It appears that if the defender were to call and agree to stay on for another season at the club then the offer would be made available to him once more. That is, 12 months with a salary reduction of 10 percent – the same as Luka Modric.
Ramos had refused to accept the one-year extension that the club offered him, instead wanting a contract of at least two years. But now his position is different, and he would now accept the 12 months that Los Blancos offered at the time.
The defensive puzzle
It is true that the club have said the original proposal has expired, but what concerns Los Blancos most right now is who would fill the void.
Carlo Ancelotti wants new signing David Alaba to play at centre-back, while Eder Militao is staying. So, now, the club will look to solve the future of Ramos, Raphael Varane and Nacho.
Varane’s contract ends in 2022 and, as MARCA has reported, the Frenchman has had a proposal on the table for weeks that has gone unanswered. Nacho should stay, but his contract situation must also be addressed before long.
