U.S. stabbing leaves one Pentagon police officer dead, several injured
A Pentagon police officer was killed Tuesday after reportedly being stabbed near the entrance of the Department of Defense and forcing a lockdown.
The suspect rushed at a police officer and stabbed him before being shot and killed at the scene by another officer. The officer who was stabbed was later declared dead, officials told The Associated Press.
The Pentagon Force Protection Agency urged “the public to please avoid the area,” before saying the scene was secure almost 90 minutes later. “The Pentagon has lifted the lock down and has reopened. Corridor 2 and the Metro entrance remains closed. Corridor 3 is open for pedestrian traffic,” a tweet read .
Pentagon Police Chief Woodrow Kusse told reporters that there were “several casualties,” but refused to elaborate.
The Arlington Fire Department and EMS said they treated patients without elaborating.
On Tuesday night, the Pentagon Force Protection Agency mourned the loss of one of its officers. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Officer’s family. Additional info on the officer will be forthcoming, following full next of kin notification,” the agency said.
