Liverpool ready to make Mohamed Salah the best paid player in the club’s history
The priority this summer for Liverpool was not to add many new names (clearly) but to renew deals for those important to the club and its future; next up on the list of contract renewals is Mohamed Salah.
The Reds are on a mission and look to be chipping away seamlessly at tying down their top crop to new long-term deals; Fabinho, Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk have all penned new agreements with the Anfield club and it was always in the pipeline to continue with Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Andrew Robertson.
Barring Jordan Henderson, who is said to be close to signing his new, improved contract although there were rumours of a potential exit after hitting a speed bump in talks, the club has been inch-perfect in their securing of first-team players.
Salah’s deal and according to Liverpool insider James Pearce, is a bit more tricker than the rest. The club considers the Egyptian to be the most influential asset and believes his quality plus consistency warrants him a hefty increase in salary.
The only sticking point could be where they meet on a new salary and if it is good enough to sit in the bracket of some of the best in the world – we talking in the £350k-per-week to £450k-per-week – a total the Reds would never consider in the past, keeping true to the pay structure that has been so successful for them.
Liverpool must pay Mo Salah what he wants
Liverpool appears to be relatively close to their best following a convincing opening day victory against Premier League re-entries Norwich City, and Mohamed Salah was a massive character in the win, being involved in all three of the Reds goals.
The forward assisted their opening goal of the campaign scored by Diogo Jota, then followed up with another layoff for Roberto Firmino to score the second of the game before adding the final blow with a thumping finish for his first of the season.
Whatever he wants, Liverpool should pay without any hesitation. Making history as the only player in the Premier League to score in five consecutive Premier League opening matchdays is no easy feat and should be considered when analysing his salary upgrade.
He is currently on 200k-per-week and negotiations have already begun between the Egyptian King and the club. Next will be Mane and Robertson as per reports.
