North Korea threatens Washington with tougher measures
North Korea has warned of a tougher response to US sanctions after North Korea launched ballistic missiles, Yonhap news agency reported, citing North Korean media.
A North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesperson described the recent launches as an “exercise of the right of self-defense,” North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman KCNA quoted.
“If the United States continues to take a confrontational attitude, we will be forced to take stronger and more specific retaliatory measures,” he said.
The US Treasury and State Department announced that “the United States has imposed new financial sanctions on 5 North Koreans for their association with Pyongyang’s weapons of mass destruction program.”
The comments came in response to a comment written by the US delegate to the UN, Linda Thomas Greenfield, on Twitter: “The United States is proposing to impose UN sanctions on North Korea, after it launched six ballistic missiles since September 2021, each of which violates UN Security Council resolutions.”
