Sovereignty Council Supports the Tripartite Mechanism for Dialogue in Sudan
Member of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council Bahri Ibrahim Jaber affirmed the council’s full support for the efforts made by the tripartite mechanism to make the dialogue between the Sudanese parties a success and facilitate its mission.
He explained that a meeting at the Republican Palace was held yesterday, Thursday, and included the Vice-President of the Sovereignty Council, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, and the tripartite facilitating mechanism for the Sudanese dialogue, which dealt with the need to expedite the start and end of direct dialogue within a specific period of time, according to what the Sudanese News Agency reported.
In addition, the envoy of the African Union, Mohamed El-Hassan Ould Labat, clarified that the mechanism confirmed during the meeting its readiness to expedite the political process, and presented a detailed vision of its approach to the Sudanese political dialogue process, in which it plays the role of facilitator.
The tripartite mechanism, which includes the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the United Nations Integrated Mission to Support the Transitional Phase in Sudan (UNITAMS), met Thursday with the military component at the Republican Palace in Khartoum, to discuss the file of dialogue.
Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadath sources reported that they demanded the release of all political detainees who are still in prison.
It also urged the lifting of the state of emergency imposed last year in the country, with the aim of creating an atmosphere for dialogue.
These calls came after it launched the national dialogue between the various political parties on May 12 (2022).

It is noteworthy that Sudan has been living since October 25 last year (2021) a political crisis between the civilian and military component, which led to the dissolution of the government and the imposition of a state of emergency.
It also prompted some civil bodies and coordination at the time to go out in a series of demonstrations that are still repeated from time to time.
The military component affirmed that it is not clinging to power, and is keen to hand over power completely after holding new elections in the country.
In addition, these exceptional measures imposed by the armed forces took place, American criticism, and international calls for it to be lifted, and the formation of a civilian government in the country.
