TRUMP: Biden has transformed the United States into a “beggar country”
“In just 2 years, in terms of recognition and respect around the world, we have gone from being the most powerful country ever… It became perhaps the weakest country. We are no longer respected by anyone…”
On July 23, local time, Trump delivered a speech at the “Turning Point USA” student action summit in Tampa, Florida, during which he repeatedly slammed Biden’s leadership.
Trump claimed that Biden had put the United States in decline and turned the United States into a “weak country” in just 2 years. He also accused Biden of even making the United States a “beggar nation” because “Biden was on his knees begging the world for energy.”
From the 22nd to the 24th local time, the “Turning Point USA” held a student action summit in Tampa, Florida. It was a conference for young conservative activists with about 5,000 students, and was also addressed by former President Donald Trump, Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz and Fox News tv personality Laura Ingraham.
On the evening of the second day (23rd) of the summit, Trump appeared and took the stage to give a speech for nearly an hour and a half amid the cheers of young students. According to the “convention”, the current US president Biden has once again become the focus of Trump’s criticism.
During his speech, Trump mentioned Biden on several issues, including his handling of the U.S. southern border, the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, COVID-19 policies, and the overall state of the U.S. economy.
In the case of the withdrawal from Afghanistan, for example, Trump first told the story of how his government and military eliminated the Islamic State (ISIS), and Trump claimed that he wanted to let the audience know how “incredible” the armed forces of the United States are. Then, Trump’s rhetoric shifted, saying that after the withdrawal from Afghanistan, the “greatness” of American soldiers may be covered up, because he believes that Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan is the “most humiliating moment” in American history, and the United States should have left with “dignity”.
Trump also mentioned the U.S. place in the world again, claiming that the United States did not decline when Biden did not take office 2 years ago, and after Biden took office, the United States is now “in decline.” He went on to claim that over the past 2 years, the world has witnessed the United States push the “radical left agenda”, which has resulted in “worse than anyone imagined”
Trump also joined the gender debate war, saying American conservatives believe that people have only two genders, male or female. He told young conservatives to oppose “left-wing gender ideology,” saying the spread of such ideology in schools and the military must be combated. In addition, like Florida Governor DeSantis, Trump has criticized transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, saying that her victory in the women’s swimming competition undermines the rights of female athletes.
“In just 2 short years, our country has come out of being the most powerful country ever. I don’t think it’s the same as 2 years ago, we were so strong and respected by the world, and now it’s become perhaps the weakest country, especially when you think about being recognized and respected around the world. We are no longer respected by anyone. ”
In this regard, Trump cited the example of American energy, saying that 2 years ago, the United States was energy independent, “even we are energy-dominant”, but now, the United States is “a beggar nation”. “We became a beggar nation because Biden knelt on the ground begging the world for energy. He went to Venezuela, to Saudi Arabia, to countries around the world for help. ”
Trump was referring to Biden’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia. Unlike Trump’s “hot fight” with the Saudi crown prince, Biden, who once threatened to make Saudi Arabia a “de facto pariah”, repeatedly beat the Saudi crown prince after taking office, causing the US-Saudi relationship to take a sharp turn. But in July, Biden pulled down his old face and went to Saudi Arabia for oil, but he did not get a firm guarantee from Saudi Arabia to increase oil production.
According to the US conservative news media Newsmax reported on the 24th, in addition to mentioning the gradual weakening of US energy independence, Trump also lamented that Americans are paying for inflation, as well as the violent crime problem caused by Biden’s open borders. He slammed the U.S. as a “refuge for criminal aliens,” calling the U.S. “like a dumping ground” where the death rate is “worse than in Afghanistan” in some Democrat-run cities.
During his criticism of the Biden administration, Trump also did not forget tout his achievements and influence. He claimed that under his leadership, “the United States has received unprecedented respect,” one example being the “NATO story.”
According to Trump, when he first attended the NATO summit, he found that the United States had borne too much expenditure, and accused many NATO members of failing to achieve the goal of sharing military spending. At Trump’s next NATO summit, he said directly, “Either you (pay for NATO) or we’re sorry, we have to go.” Trump said that at that time, the leader of a NATO ally stood up and asked him: “Do you mean that if we don’t pay, when we are attacked by Russia, you will not come to protect us?” ”
Trump said he gave an affirmative answer at the time, bluntly saying ” I will not come to protect you.” Then the next day, “the money kept pouring in… A total of $430 billion was obtained. Then, Trump referred to the situation in Russia and Ukraine, once again declaring that under his leadership, the war in Ukraine “will never happen.”
After repeatedly “pulling and stepping” in this way, Trump actively mobilized young people to join the Republican Party and called on young people to vote. He said the future of the Republican Party belongs to young people, and “we need young people like you to get involved, speak out, run on the campaign, and help us take back America.” ”
It is worth mentioning that Trump’s participation in the Student Action Summit coincided with the decline in Biden’s support among young people in the United States, and Trump also mocked Biden at the meeting that Biden was being “abandoned” by young people. ABC analyzed on the 24th that the purpose of this summit is not only to mobilize young people to join the Republican Party, but also to establish an organization that allows the Republican Party to contact more young people.
McManus cautioned that it was time for the Democratic Party to mobilize as well. “Democrats know they have to start reaching out to young voters. It’s also an important moment for young people in both Republicans and Democrats, both parties need them. ”
Susan McManus, a political analyst at ABC, also noted that both the Republican and Democratic political worlds are evolving as young people are replacing baby boomers and older generations who will bring a completely different energy, a completely different way of communicating, and a completely different order of priorities.
