Pique will build his hotel on the ruins of a Muslim cemetery
After leading a legal battle to obtain a building permit, the Spanish defender of FC Barcelona, Gerard Pique has received the green light to proceed with the construction of his hotel in Malaga.
According to the Iberian press, this battle comes after an “important archaeological discovery” of a medieval Muslim cemetery on the land in question.

In an interview with SER Malaga, archaeologist Alberto Cumpian assured that “the tombs are empty, perhaps never used, and do not have enough value to be preserved”. “
They date from the 15th century and the strongest hypothesis we have is that the construction (of the cemetery, editor’s note) coincided with the Christian occupation of present-day Malaga,” he added, explaining that “Muslims were buried without funeral processions.”
“We only discovered five percent of what was the great Muslim necropolis of Malaga, one of the largest on the peninsula.”
The Iberian press explains that the land was acquired by Pique’s family business, Kerald Holding, chaired by the father of the FC Barcelona footballer, for around 20 million euros.
