Libya’s stability closely linked to Egypt’s national security: El-Sisi to Haftar
President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi stressed Saturday that Libya's stability is closely linked to Egyptian national security during a meeting with Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Armed Forces Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.
According to the Egyptian Presidency, during the meeting attended by the head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service Hassan Rashad, El-Sisi and Haftar emphasized the unique Egyptian-Libyan relations.
El-Sisi highlighted Egypt’s efforts to ensure Libya’s security, stability, sovereignty and unity. He also highlighted Egypt’s keenness to restore Libya’s development path and reiterated Cairo’s support for all initiatives to achieve this goal.
Furthermore, El-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s keenness to ensure the unity and cohesion of Libya’s national institutions, stressing the need to prevent foreign interference and ensure the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya.
During the meeting, El-Sisi expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the national role played by the Libyan Armed Forces in combating terrorism and eliminating terrorist organizations in eastern Libya.
Additionally, the Egyptian president stressed the importance of coordination among all Libyan parties to formulate a comprehensive political roadmap that would lead to simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections.
For his part, Haftar expressed his deep appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role in restoring Libya’s stability and intensive efforts to support the Libyan people since the onset of the crisis.
He also praised Egypt’s vital role in transferring its developmental experience to Libya and utilizing the expertise and capabilities of prominent Egyptian companies in this regard.
The Libyan official emphasized the ongoing efforts to resolve the situation in Libya, contributing to the recovery of Libyan resources and opening prospects for stability, prosperity, and well-being.
