Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed the humanitarian pause that has been reached in Gaza.
Hussein Al-Sheikh, the Secretary-General of the Palestine Liberation Organization’s (PLO) Executive Committee relayed the message saying, “President Abbas and the leadership welcome the humanitarian truce agreement”.
He noted, “We appreciate the Qatari-Egyptian effort that has been made, and we renew the call for a comprehensive cessation of the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, the introduction of humanitarian aid, and the implementation of a political solution based on international legitimacy, leading to an end to the occupation and the Palestinian people gaining their freedom, independence, and sovereignty.”
Hamas said that the agreement was reached following difficult and complex indirect negotiations.
The agreement involved a prisoner exchange deal and a number of clauses that would ensure the entry of humanitarian aid into the entire Gaza Strip “without exception”.
The deal includes the cessation of all hostilities from both sides, hundreds of trucks carrying humanitarian, relief, and medical aid will reach all areas of the Gaza Strip without exception, fuel deliveries will be allowed into the Gaza Strip, 50 captives will be released from the Gaza Strip and
in exchange, 150 Palestinian prisoners will be released from Israeli prisons.
Moreover, Hamas revealed that the occupation agreed to refrain from targeting or arresting any individuals throughout the truce’s timeframe. The Resistance movement also said that the freedom of movement would be ensured for all Palestinians along Salah al-Din Street, which connects the districts of the Gaza Strip.
The movement reiterated that the terms of the agreement were formulated and achieved according to the vision and objectives of the Resistance, which aims to serve its people and aid their resilience in the face of the Israeli occupation.
