Bashagha holds Dabaiba responsible for any ‘military escalation’
Bashagha’s Government of National Stability (GNS), appointed by the House of Representatives, welcomed a statement issued by “military leaders” from the city of Misrata and blaming the “outgoing” Government of National Unity headed by Abdulhamid Dabaiba, for any “military escalation that affects security and stability, and threatens the safety of civilians.”
On Saturday, the commander of the Counter-Terrorism Force in Misrata, Mukhtar al-Hijawi, on behalf of the city’s “field commanders” held the United Nations mission “responsible for what might occur if clashes take place.” In a statement read out in a video recording, he demanded that the conflict remain political “as they pledged before us” and he held them responsible for any “drop of blood being spilled from the people of this country.”
At the same time, the GNS statement held the “outgoing government” responsible for any “military escalation that affects security and stability, and threatens the safety of civilians.”
The GNS said in a statement that the statement by the “military leaders from Misrata” is consistent in its “content with the principles and policy of the Libyan government and its unequivocal commitment to start its work from the capital, Tripoli, in accordance with the law and peaceful methods.”
The city of Tripoli witnessed movements of armed formations at dawn on Saturday amid a tight security according to eyewitnesses.
