CONI rejects Roma’s appeal, the 3-0 loss to Hellas Verona stands
The Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) has rejected Roma’s appeal regarding their 3-0 loss to Hellas Verona.
CONI’s Collegio di Garanzia dello Sport announced their ruling just moments ago following today’s hearing, which lasted one hour. The judgement affirms the original ruling of Lega Serie A, who handed down the punishment in late September.
Both CONI and Lega Serie A determined that Roma utilised an ineligible player in the match due to the participation of midfielder Amadou Diawara. Two club administrators mistakenly added the Guinean to the U-23 section of their official team list.
Roma argued that the error was done in good faith and awarded them no sporting advantage. CONI, though, rejected the appeal — a decisions that keeps the Giallorossi on 50 points in the Serie A table.
