Cristiano Ronaldo booed and whistled upon Madrid return
The ex-Real Madrid striker, as well as Morata, was the victim of some taunts
Cristiano Ronaldo wasn’t received with the warmest of welcomes as he returned to Madrid on Friday night.
The former Real Madrid forward was in town with Portugal to take on Spain in a pre-European Championship warm-up match, and those in attendance at Atletico Madrid’s Estadio Wanda Metropolitano were quick to reminded him of where he was.
Even before the game had kicked off, Cristiano’s every move and touch was booed and whistled as he warmed up.
Cristiano wasn’t alone
The crowd in the capital were in an unforgiving mood, and even aimed some harsh words and whistles towards Spain striker Alvaro Morata, as well as coach Luis Enrique.
Luis Enrique’s name was met with jeers pre-match, while Morata was the victim of taunts and shots as the game wore on and the Juventus forward missed a chance.
“I don’t care,” Luis Enrique said afterwards when asked about the reaction. “He has killed himself tonight trying to press, and he has created a lot of danger.
“They should stand and applaud when he runs 40 meters, sends the goalkeeper and is unlucky enough to see his shot hit the crossbar. They can whistle me, but I don’t like them doing it to the players.”
