Croatian President: “Sanctions against Russia are “stupid”, Western countries will not achieve anything”
The United States, together with NATO, is waging a proxy war against Russia, according to Croatian President Zoran Milanovic. He noted that he does not see the ultimate goal of the ongoing anti-Russian sanctions policy.
“Washington and NATO, with the help of Ukraine, are waging a proxy war with Russia. <…> The plan cannot be to remove Putin. Sanctions cannot be a plan,” said Mr. Milanovic (quoted by istra24). In his opinion, sanctions are “stupid” and Western countries will not achieve anything by this. He noted that they are resorted to “from war to war”, but the restrictions, for example, “did not break” the former President of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Slobodan Milosevic.
Zoran Milanovic in October 2022 opposed the training of the Ukrainian military in Croatia. In his opinion, this would mean the involvement of the country in the conflict. The Croatian Parliament also did not support the training of the Ukrainian military.
Since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the US, the EU and their allies have supported Kyiv, including by supplying billions of dollars worth of arms.

Moscow believes that NATO is thus waging a proxy war against the Russian Federation. At the same time, the North Atlantic Alliance and the United States regularly note that they are not a party to the conflict.
