Davutoglu launches a violent attack on Erdogan after his university is closed
The head of the Future Party and former Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu launched a violent attack on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, because of the closure of a private university founded by the first.
Davutoglu said in a speech in Istanbul on Saturday: “By a decision issued in the middle of the night they closed one of the best educational institutions in Turkey, those who left the school, they left because of the bullying of Erdogan,” adding: “Do you know why the unscrupulous did this matter with the cruelty that we witnessed, President Erdogan who signed this dirty decision is trying to deliver the following message to the whole of society, especially conservative religious groups, either to bow or listen.
He continued: “If you have a dissenting opinion, an independent opinion, you will be threatened and punished, brothers. I ask you again, does political competition not have morals and honor?”
On Tuesday, the Council of Higher Education in Turkey issued a decision to suspend the operating permit of “Istanbul Shahir” University, which was established in 2008 by the Davutoglu Foundation for Science and Arts, and transferred its management to Marmara University, following court cases facing the university against the background of the land on which it was built. The decision, signed by President Erdogan, was published in the Official Gazette.
The former Turkish Prime Minister continued his attack on Erdogan: “I know that my brothers whose hearts are with the Justice and Development Party are weeping about these events. The president cannot justify the closure of (Istanbul Shahir) University where thousands of students are studying.” He pointed out that “Erdogan is responsible for the situation The current mismanagement, because it strengthens its surroundings with these foci. ”
The Chamber of Turkish Architects had filed several lawsuits against the university over the transfer of state land to the university campus, but Davutoglu and opponents of Erdogan considered the decision to be a retaliatory political nature of Erdogan’s former ally, prime minister and current political opponent who split from the ruling Justice and Development Party last year He established an opposition party, the Future Party.
Davutoglu said: “The decision to shut down (Istanbul Shahir University) is actually the product of hostility of those who lack self-confidence at the expense of academic quality, but what really bothered me is that the members of the Higher Education Council, academics, deputies and civil society representatives whom I know personally preferred tactical silence “.
The President of the Future Party pointed out that “Last week, Erdogan was telling young people the importance of social media to them. This speech broke the record of disliking YouTube, and four days passed after that Erdogan’s speech until he said that we will shut down social media.”
He concluded: “They (the ruling party) are used to closing, they cannot stop without closing, can you shutdown Youtube, Twitter and Instagram, everything expected from you, everything expected from those who rule the country with the logic of a state.”
