Dendias in eastern Libya for talks on ceasefire, foreign intervention
Greece’s Foreign Minister, Nikos Dendias, arrived in eastern Libya today where he met with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, to discuss the Libyan conflict and bilateral relations between the two countries.
Dendias stressed that foreign intervention in Libya does not lead to any solution, violates international law and does not create a better future for the Libyan people, according to Al-Safi.
During the meeting, both sides also discussed foreign interference in Libya, according to a statement by Saleh’s media adviser Hamid Al-Safi.
The Greek top diplomat expressed his overwhelming belief that the only opportunity to find a Libyan-led solution to this crisis is by expelling all forms of foreign interference, particularly that of Turkey, Al-Safi said. He added that his country is pushing towards the actual start of implementing the Cairo peace initiative. He also stressed that Libya has the right to defend itself against any invasion targeting its land and sovereignty.
Saleh and Dendias also discussed the maritime border agreement signed last year between Turkey and the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA), which Greece and the European Union oppose.
