Egyptian Court Refers Papers of “8 Brotherhood Leaders” to Mufti
The court set a hearing for September 20 to pronounce on the case, in which 79 accused Brotherhood leaders are being tried.

The case dates back to July 27, 2013, when clashes erupted between protesters and police in Cairo’s Rabaa al-Adawiya Square, killing 80 people and injuring more than 300. The court will hold the hearing on September 20, and the case will be tried in absentia.

Among the most prominent referred to the Grand Mufti, in addition to the Brotherhood’s General Guide, are Mahmoud Ezzat, acting guide, Mohamed El-Beltagy, Amr Zaki, Osama Yassin, and Safwat Hegazy.

Assem Abdel Majid, a leader of the Islamic Group, and a Salafist preacher Mohamed Abdel Maqsoud, who are being tried in absentia in this case, were also referred in absentia.
