FIFA Rankings: Morocco Maintains 13th Place Ranking
Morocco still sits at the top of African and Arab teams in the ranking.
FIFA Morocco has maintained its position as the 13th best team worldwide in FIFA’s latest rankings, with a total of 1661.69 points.
Topping the list is Argentina, the reigning world champions, followed by runners-up France, and England in third place.
In December 2022, Morocco had achieved 11th place thanks to their incredible run at the World Cup in Qatar under the management of head coach Walid Regragui.
In July, Morocco went slightly down to 14th place but they soon regained confidence and were able to move up to their current position after some positive results.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) awarded Morocco earlier this month the 2023 CAF’s National Team of the Year award.
Regragui also won the Coach of the Year award, while Morocco’s Yassine Bounou was named Goalkeeper of the Year.
Morocco have previously imposed themselves in the top ten of the FIFA rankings, holding the 10th place in 1998. That year also marked Morocco’s fourth-ever participation in the World Cup.
Morocco is still in first place among African teams in the ranking, followed by Senegal (20th), and Tunisia (28th).
The new rankings come less than a month away from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) set to take place in Cote d’Ivoire.
The African tournament is scheduled to run between January 13 and February 11, with Morocco being placed in Group F alongside DR Congo, Tanzania, and Zambia.
