FM Asserts Egypt’s Firm Stance Backing Libyan-Libyan Solution Away From External Dictates
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry asserted Egypt’s firm stance backing the Libyan-Libyan solution path away from any external dictates.
Shoukry said Egypt also supports the Libyan institutions’ role based on the Libyan terms of reference for the settlement, particularly the Skhirat Agreement that was signed on December 17, 2015, and paving the way for holding presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya as soon as possible.
During the meeting, Shoukry stressed the need to stop foreign interventions in Libya and the withdrawal of all foreign forces, foreign fighters and mercenaries from the country within a specific time frame with the view to preserving the sovereignty and stability of Libya.
This came during his meeting with US envoy to Libya Richard Norland as part of his current visit to Washington, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.
For his part, amb. Norland lauded Egypt’s crucial role and efforts to back the political settlement path in Libya.
