Guardiola: Bernardo Silva is staying at Manchester City
Closed the door on a potential exit for the Portuguese star
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola says Bernardo Silva will be staying with the club following reports linking the midfielder with an exit.
The Manchester club play host to Crystal Palace on Saturday, but the Spanish tactician made sure to give an update on his star player ahead of the close of the transfer window on September 1.
Silva has been linked with a move to Barcelona all summer, but Guardiola was categorical in denying a potential sale.
“We don’t have any phone call from any club regarding Bernardo Silva, so that’s why he’ll stay,” he said in his press conference.
“He will stay.”
City were held to a 3-3 draw by Newcastle United last time out, and Guardiola is aware of the threat Palace pose given Patrick Vieira’s men were the only team to prevent the Citizens from scoring in the Premier League last season.
“That shows how good they are, under Roy Hodgson and now Patrick Vieira,” Guardiola said.
“They have an incredible amount of quality and from nothing can create something.
“We have to be aware and not do mistakes because they defend their box really well, have good set pieces and good transitions.”
