Israeli Airstrikes on Central and Northern Gaza Claim 17 Lives, Injure Many

Israeli Airstrikes in Gaza: At Least 17 Palestinians Killed, Many Injured

At least 17 Palestinians were killed and others injured in Israeli airstrikes targeting the al-Bureij refugee camp and Jabalia town in the central and northern Gaza Strip early Wednesday, according to a WAFA correspondent.

In Jabalia, Israeli fighter jets struck a residential building, killing at least 15 civilians, most of them children. Another airstrike targeted a house in the al-Bureij refugee camp, resulting in the deaths of two more civilians.

Simultaneously, Israeli forces demolished residential blocks in Beit Lahia and the Jabalia refugee camp, while tanks shelled areas in northwestern Gaza City and southeastern neighborhoods of al-Bureij camp.

The ongoing offensive comes despite a legally binding order from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) instructing Israel to halt its military operations in Rafah, citing potential violations of the Genocide Convention.

Since the escalation began on October 7, Israeli airstrikes have devastated Gaza, claiming the lives of at least 45,514 Palestinians and injuring over 108,338, according to Palestinian health officials. Additionally, more than 10,000 people remain missing, believed to be trapped under the rubble of destroyed homes.

Humanitarian organizations report that the majority of casualties are women and children. The assault has also forcibly displaced nearly two million people, many of whom are now concentrated in the southern city of Rafah, near the Egyptian border, marking the largest mass displacement of Palestinians since the 1948 Nakba.
