Laporta makes a strict decision after the “scandal” of Barcelona fans in the Eintracht match
Barcelona club president, Joan Laporta, announced that tickets for the continental matches that will be hosted by his team “Camp Nou” will be, as of today, in the name of the person who will attend the match.
The Barcelona president took this decision, after large numbers of fans of the German team Eintracht Frankfurt attended the stronghold of the Catalan team, “Camp Nou”, last Thursday, to support their team, which grabbed the ticket to the semi-finals of the European League, after defeating “Barca” 3-3, 2.
Barcelona published the number of fans who attended the match, which was estimated at 37,746 fans, who attended with season tickets, and 34,440 tickets were sold to the public in general.
5,000 tickets were also sent to Eintracht Frankfurt, as stipulated by the regulations of the European Football Association “UEFA”, and 2,425 invitations were allocated to “UEFA”.
Laporta made statements to the Catalan television network “TV3”, in which he said: “The 34,440 tickets that the club put up for sale were tickets that included restrictions on the inability to purchase them with German credit cards or through any German electronic digital address.”
According to Laporta, these tickets were intended for the third-tier stands of the stadium, which witnessed an overwhelming presence of the German team’s fans.
Laporta indicated that these 34,440 tickets were sold at a 50% discount to members 24 hours before the opening of ticket sales to the public in general, expressing his displeasure, saying: “Those who bought tickets were the ones who gave them to the German public, and this is evidence.”
In addition, the Barcelona president indicated that among the 37,746 season ticket holders who attended the Camp Nou, German fans were observed in the seats designated for these.
Laporta absolved Barcelona of the overwhelming presence of the German public during the match, but at the same time admitted that the club’s management was “responsible” for organizing the match, and that he did not want to “repeat” what the club experienced in the European League meeting against Eintracht.
Laporta confirmed that, as of today, tickets will be nominal in the European matches that Barcelona will play in its stadium.
