Libyan leaders in Cairo for political settlement
Libyan leaders Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Army Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, and Parliament Speaker Aqila Saleh are currently visiting Egypt for coordination and consultation on a political settlement in Libya, sources told Al-Ain newspaper on Monday.
Both Libyan figures arrived in Egypt on Sunday, within the framework of Cairo-led moves to resolve the crisis of Dabaiba’s “obstinacy” in handing over power, the sources added.
In a joint press conference with his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdelrahman Al Thani, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry affirmed that Egypt supports the Libyan political track to preserve the country’s unity and stability.
He added that Egypt stresses the importance of adhering to the international decisions issued by the Security Council and the Berlin declarations 1, 2 and Paris; he said that holding free elections, the exit of foreign forces, mercenaries and militias are a must.
“Egypt is communicating with all Libyan parties to support understanding and reach political solutions away from the military conflict,” he added.
