The US policies in the Middle East played a destructive role in the latest escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Chumakov told a plenary session of the UN General Assembly.
“Policies of the United States, who kept turning a blind eye to the ongoing Israeli settlement construction in the occupied territories and recognized Israel’s sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights, have played a destructive role in the current escalation,” he said.
The Russian diplomat added that Russia has repeatedly warned that this approach was “futile and dangerous” and openly warned about the “tragic consequences” that it may entail.
“As a result, we are now witnessing a conflict of unprecedented scope, which may spread to the entire Middle Eastern region,” he continued.
