Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas risks relationship with the Arabs
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, in a telephone call, briefed last night his Turkish counterpart, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on the latest political developments in the region, particularly the pressures exerted by the United States on a number of countries and the need to confront these pressures and adhere to the Arab Peace Initiative.
The President called on Turkey to support these efforts and to provide Turkish observers as part of an international team to monitor the elections.
The President also briefed Erdogan on the current dialogues between Fatah and Hamas and the Palestinian factions, as agreed upon in the meeting of the general secretaries of the factions, and everyone’s insistence on the unity of the position with an aim of achieving reconciliation and going to elections.
President Abbas thanked his Turkish counterpart for his country’s support for Palestine and its just cause, and for the contacts that President Erdogan made with the presidents of Serbia and Kosovo to urge them not to open embassies or offices in Jerusalem.
