Al-Jalasi is considered one of the most important and oldest prominent leaders in the Ennahda movement, as he supervised the movement’s electoral campaign in the elections for the Tunisian National Constituent Assembly 2011, before he became the movement’s vice president Rashid Ghannouchi, and was appointed in 2014 as the head of the electoral commission within the movement and supervised its campaign in the 2014 parliamentary elections On January 27, 2015, Al-Jalasi resigned from his position in the Executive Office, then returned to the position of Deputy Chairman of the Movement in March of the same year.
Al-Jalasi said in his resignation message, which he published on Wednesday evening, that he had decided to put an end to the experience of 40 years of activity at the heart of the Ennahda party, because of his dissatisfaction with the movement’s management of the movement and its political options and social position, as well as its deviation from democracy, and accused it of manipulating public opinion and its rules.
