Russian General and his Assistant Killed in Explosion in Moscow

An explosion occurred this morning on Ryazansky Prospekt in Moscow. Two fatalities have been reported, according to Russian Telegram channels.

According to eyewitnesses, the explosion occurred at 6:11 a.m. Preliminary information suggests that a few hours before the incident, an unknown person parked a scooter near the entrance of the building, to which, it seems, an IED (improvised explosive device) was attached.

As a result of the explosion, two people were killed, including, reportedly:

  • Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, the head of the Russian Armed Forces’ Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Defense Troops;
  • another fatality is believed to be his assistant.

Just yesterday, the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) in absentia charged this Russian general. According to the Ukrainian Security Service, he is responsible for the widespread use of banned chemical weapons by Russia against the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the eastern and southern fronts.

Specifically, under his orders, more than 4,800 instances of the enemy using chemical munitions have been recorded since the start of the full-scale war.

According to Telegram channels, the explosion caused the entrance doors of the building to be blown off and shattered the windows. Additionally, the general’s service car was damaged.

The detonation could have been carried out remotely. It is likely that the bomber or their accomplice may not have even been in the line of sight but could have accessed the entrance camera, which many residents of the residential complex have.

Currently, sappers are inspecting the area around the building on Ryazansky Prospekt. The scooter, to which the improvised explosive device (IED) was allegedly attached, will be taken for further examination.

The Russian Telegram channel Mash reports that the second victim of the explosion in Moscow was the lieutenant general’s driver. According to reports, he arrived around 6 a.m. to pick up his superior and take him to work.
