Sam Morsy Sticks to Tradition Amid Premier League Campaign
Ipswich Town captain Sam Morsy, an Egyptian international, opted to wear the club’s traditional captain’s armband during his side’s Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest on Saturday in Round 13.
The Premier League had designated the weekend for supporting the “Rainbow Laces” campaign, promoting equality for the LGBTQ+ community, with team captains donning rainbow-themed armbands. However, Morsy chose not to participate, wearing his regular armband instead, in contrast to Nottingham Forest’s captain.
A respected figure at Ipswich, Morsy was instrumental in leading the team back to the Premier League last season after a prolonged absence.
Ipswich lost 1-0 despite his leadership, when Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood scored a penalty. With 22 points, the outcome moved Forest up to sixth place in the standings, while Ipswich is still in 19th place with nine points.
