Swiss Prosecutors Probe Criminal Charges Against Israeli Prez Herzog

Swiss prosecutors are investigating criminal complaints against Israeli President Isaac Herzog over alleged incitement to genocide and crimes against humanity. Discussions are ongoing about Herzog’s immunity, while he attended the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The office of the Attorney General of Switzerland said it is looking into “multiple criminal complaints” against Israeli president Isaac Herzog, who is likely to attend the World Economic Forum at the Swiss resort of Davos this coming week.

The office of the Swiss Attorney told mediaperons that the complaints were “being examined per the usual procedure” and that it was in contact with the country’s foreign ministry “to examine the question of immunity of Isaac Herzog.”

The office did not provide any specificity of the complaints filed. However, the local media reported that one of the complaints came from a non-governmental organisation (NGO) known as Legal Action Against Genocide “for incitement to genocide and crimes against humanity.”

It also said that “the indiscriminate use of weaponry, unable to distinguish between civilians and combatants, was used during the Gaza war, which resulted in violations of international laws.”

The complaint filed claimed that Israeli top official Herzog played “an active role in the ideological justification of genocide and war crimes against humanity in Gaza, perpetuated by the Israeli defence forces.”

Meanwhile, reports indicate that Herzog spoke at Davos on Tuesday and also held meetings on Wednesday morning, but it was unclear if he was still in Switzerland.

Reports indicate that the complaints against Herzog were filed during the last Davos meeting, although the Swiss attorney general refrained from initiating an investigation at the time.
