Trump and Melania began quarantine after Hope Hicks, one of his closest associates, tested positive for the virus.
“Hope Hicks, who has been working so hard without even taking a small break, has just tested positive for Covid-19,” Trump said on Twitter.
“Terrible! The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process!”
US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania have contracted the corona virus.
Trump and Melania began quarantine after Hope Hicks, one of his closest associates, tested positive for the virus.
Hicks, the 31-year-old adviser to the president, is Trump’s closest adviser who has so far tested positive for the coronavirus.
She traveled with him on Air Force One to attend a televised debate in Ohio earlier this week.
Hicks was removed by Air Force One without a mask in Cleveland on Tuesday.
She was aboard the Marine One presidential helicopter near him on Wednesday when the president was holding a rally in Minnesota.
Trump tweeted Thursday night: “Hope Hicks, who worked hard without taking a little break, tested positive for Covid.” 19-. It is terrible!
“The first lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime we will start the quarantine process!”
It is unclear how the quarantine will affect arrangements for the second presidential debate, due to take place on October 15 in Miami, Florida.
During a phone call with Fox News host Sean Hannity on Thursday night, Trump said he and Mrs. Trump “spend a lot of time with Hope.”
“So we’ll see what happens,” said the President, adding that Mrs. Hicks often wore masks but was still injured.
The virus has infected more than 7.2 million Americans and killed more than 200,000 of them.
The White House tests its aides and anyone else in contact with the president daily.
Trump mostly refuses to wear masks and is often portrayed as not committing to social distancing with his aides or others during his official engagements.
According to Bloomberg News, Hicks has symptoms of illness and was isolated on Air Force One on his return flight from Minnesota.
Hicks is the newest White House advisor to be infected with “Covid-19”. Vice President Mike Pence’s press secretary tested positive in May. She has recovered.
That same month, a U.S. Navy personnel working as one of Trump’s personal servants tested positive for the coronavirus.
But the White House said the president and vice president were unimpressed.
National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien, a number of intelligence agents, a Navy pilot and a cafeteria employee at the White House also tested positive.
Hicks was the campaign spokesman during Trump’s candidacy before becoming White House communications director.
She resigned in March 2018 to become Rupert Murdoch Fox’s chief communications officer before returning to the White House in February.
