TURKISH FORCES LAUNCH SURPRISE ATTACK ON AIN ISSA IN NORTHERN RAQQA
The Turkish military and the so-called Syrian National Army (SNA) launched on November 24 a surprise attack on Kurdish forces around the key town of Ain Issa in northern Raqqa.
According to the Hawar News Agency (ANHA), Turkish forces are attacking the villages of Saida, Mu’laq and al-Wasta west of Ain Issa. Heavy clashes are reportedly taking place around the three villages.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that the Turkish-led attack had forced the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) to withdraw from several posts around Ain Issa. This claim has not been verified, yet.
Earlier this month, Russian forces and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) established a coordination and operations center in the vicinity of village.
The attack on the town’s outskirt violates Turkey’s recent agreements with Russia and the U.S, which established a ceasefire regime in the region.
