UNRWA: Humanitarian Response is Impossible in Gaza with Israeli Restrictions on Aid

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on Monday that the severe restrictions imposed by Israel on the arrival of aid to the Gaza Strip make providing a humanitarian response “extremely difficult, if not impossible.”

The UNRWA spokesperson, Louise Wateridge, stressed that “there is an urgent need for sustained and proportionate access to aid, to be able to provide life-saving aid to Gaza.”

“We have doctors and nurses working in Gaza, but what is the benefit of their presence when medicine is not available due to strict Israeli restrictions?”, she added.

Describing the suffering of relief teams in Gaza, Wateridge said, “We are facing great difficulties to obtain the approval of the Israeli authorities for the entry and delivery of aid in a way that guarantees the safety of our teams and the safety of the aid at the same time.”
