UNRWA Says Five Staff Killed in Gaza, Fears Worst is Yet to Come

UNRWA says five of its staff have been killed in Gaza, and the agency fears the worst is yet to come
“As of this morning, UNRWA was able to confirm that an additional five colleagues of ours were among the killed, which brings the death toll to over 280 colleagues of ours”
“We were very, very hopeful when the ceasefire was in place because the people of Gaza have finally had a little bit of respite from the killing, from the bombardment, from the displacement, from the uncertainty, from the grief.”
“The worst is yet to come with regards to the impact that the renewal of the bombardments by the Israeli forces is having on the civilians, on the people, ordinary people in Gaza, men, women, children, and the fear that more of what we’ve seen at the peak of the war in Gaza would repeat. And the question is: how are we going to let this happen once again?”
“In the past few days another five UNRWA staff have been confirmed killed, bringing the death toll to 284. They were teachers, doctors and nurses: serving the most vulnerable,” Lazzarini said in a statement posted on X.
“Gaza has soon become one of the most dangerous places to be a humanitarian worker in. The death toll among humanitarian workers is the highest in the world,” she said.
UNRWA spokesperson, Juliette Touma said that 280 staff members have been killed since October 7.
