World Cup 2022: Portugal don’t want Cristiano Ronaldo

Portuguese newspaper A Bola conducted a survey which provided a very surprising result

Although he is a media darling, Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t having a very flashy World Cup.

His performances so far have been rather subdued, scoring just one goal which came from the penalty spot.

The former Real Madrid player no longer has the physique and abilities of the past, and at 37 years of age, his time with the national team may be over.

This is in large part due to the options Portugal have at their disposal. Rafael Leao, Joao Felix, Guedes, Andre Silva and Goncalo Ramos are some of the players who could shine more if given more space, but Cristiano’s shadow obscures everything.

That is why Portuguese newspaper A Bola conducted a survey for its readers asking if Cristiano should be a starter in the round of 16 match against Switzerland.

The results were surprising. Very surprising actually. Only 30 percent of readers believe that Cristiano should start, while a resounding 70 percent stating he should wait for his chance on the bench.

His performance on the pitch has deteriorated. He is not generating the danger and chances he used to, and even his loyal fans have noticed.

The Portuguese people have been clear, and Cristiano may be forced to step aside sooner rather than later.
