Algerian President Tebboune: President Kais Saied Represents Legitimacy In Tunisia

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said that President Kais Saied represents legitimacy in Tunisia, stressing that Algeria deals with legitimacy.

The Algerian position comes, while Tunisia recently witnessed a referendum on the constitution in order to reform the existing political system in the country, according to our reporters.

Algeria has long pledged to stand by Tunisia, whose political and economic stability was greatly affected after the events of 2011.

And last July, the Independent High Authority for Elections in Tunisia announced the approval of Tunisians on the draft constitution, which was put to a referendum on the twenty-fifth of July.

The new draft constitution is among the exceptional measures taken by the Tunisian president on July 25 after removing the Brotherhood from power, dismissing the government, appointing another, dissolving the Judicial Council and Parliament, issuing legislation with presidential decrees, and early parliamentary elections to December 17.

The head of the commission, Farouk Bou Askar, said in a press conference that 94.60 percent of Tunisians voted yes on the draft constitution.

The new draft constitution includes 142 articles, and grants wide powers to the head of state, unlike the 2014 constitution, which provided for a quasi-parliamentary system, which caused rivalries and conflict between the three wings of power (the presidency, parliament and the government), which was reflected in the deteriorating situation in the country, according to analysts.
