FM Shoukry: “Egypt supports Tunisian President Saied’s actions to build better future

FM Sameh Shoukry met with Tunisian President Kais Saied in Tunis, where he conveyed the greetings and appreciation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.

Shoukry praised the continuous progress witnessed in relations between the two countries in recent years, the historic visit of the Tunisian president to Cairo in April 2021, and the qualitative leap it represented in the relations of the two countries. 

During the meeting, the Foreign Minister reiterated Egypt’s support for the actions and efforts of President Kais Saied and the Tunisian state, which aims to build a better future for the brotherly Tunisian people and achieve stability and development in the country.

Abu Zeid, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that President Said stressed the congruence of the positions of the two leaders on all regional issues and international challenges, and his pride in the support that Tunisia enjoys from Egypt in facing all challenges. 

The meeting touched upon a number of regional issues of interest to the two countries, foremost of which are the situation in Sudan, Libya, and the Palestinian issue, in addition to the issue of illegal migration, and the common challenges posed by all these issues for the two countries.       . 

Earlier on Tuesday, Foreign Minister Shoukry affirmed Egypt’s support for the actions and efforts of Tunisian President Kais Saied aimed at building a better future for the brotherly Tunisian people, achieving stability in the country, and consolidating the foundations of the New Republic.

This came during the 15th round of political consultation between Egypt and Tunisia, held on Tuesday in Tunis, chaired by Minister Shoukry and his Tunisian counterpart Nabil Ammar, in the presence of delegations from both countries.     

Abu Zeid said that the two ministers praised the continuous and remarkable progress in relations between the two countries in recent years.

They stressed the importance of continuing consultation, coordination and cooperation on all issues of common interest, with the aim of upgrading relations to a strategic level and achieving the interests of the two brotherly countries and peoples, in light of their unity of Destiny, common goals and historical brotherly relations.

The talks touched upon the high-level meetings expected to be held between the concerned parties from the two countries in the coming period, including the joint Egyptian-Tunisian higher committee headed by the prime ministers of the two countries, as well as the joint Egyptian-Tunisian trade committee, as well as the continuation of coordination for the activation of the Joint Economic Forum.

They also stressed the need to follow up the implementation of what is agreed upon and to maintain the existing positive momentum in the relationship between the two countries.

The two sides also discussed various regional and international issues and files of common interest, foremost of which are the situation in Libya, the Palestinian issue, the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) issue and the Arab follow-up track to resolve both the Syrian and Sudanese crises.

The talks also touched upon the repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian war on the region and the two countries, the issue of illegal migration, as well as the relationship with international financial institutions. 

This necessitates joining hands between the two brotherly countries in order to face the challenges to achieve the interests of the Egyptian and Tunisian peoples and ensure the security of the countries and peoples of the region.

The two ministers stressed the need to maintain the existing coordination between Egypt and Tunisia on all these issues and challenges, especially in light of the critical circumstances and major challenges the world is going through.
